30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 29

"What is your favourite school uniform?"

For a guy, Ikuto's from 'Shugo Chara'.

For a girl, Medaka from 'Medaka Box' - though if she had her way, she'd wear nothing at all.

Tomorrow heralds the final question!

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 28

"What is your favourite Pokemon?"

I have a soft spot for Absol, a disaster pokemon which my husband caught and asked me to name...I called it 'Lucky' XD

Original-wise, either Pikachu or Jigglypuff.

LOL!

....I so want one.

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 27

"What is your favourite anime theme song?"

I have quite a few of those...but 'Saa' from 'Mamotte Shugogetten' is probably my favourite.  It has the most awesome slap bass!

Check out the full version here: SURFACE / さぁ

...There are so many others I want to add, but if I start, I won't be able to stop :(

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 26

"What is your favourite harem anime?"

Ranma 1/2.  Rumiko Takahashi is a legend!

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 25

"Who is your favourite anime villian?"

Jinnai from 'El Hazard', because you have to love a guy that can go to another world and proudly proclaim that he is the "ruler of Shinonome Highschool" and, sure, he'll lead you into battle.

I actually found a character sheet for him, LOL!

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 24

"Who is your favourite hero/heroine?"

Funnily enough, they are both from the same series - Kamina and Yoko from 'Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann'.  They are made of WIN!!! *_*

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 23

Hmm... Today's question is a hard one...

"Which anime do you thing has the best/most intriguing art?"

Since the art style is what attracted me to anime in the first place, even as a child, many series come to mind.  There is an anime I would put down, except that I've only ever seen 2 episodes and I can't remember the name.  All I remember is that the animation style would best be described as experimental art, and something about a teacher who played piano.

So, failing what ever that is, I'll say 'Paradise Kiss'.  The art is not so much realistic as it is incredibly detailed - it reminds me of the saying 'seeing the world through rose coloured glasses', except that in this case, the glasses would have to be blue.  Very romantic, very beautiful :)

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 22

"Who is your favourite yaoi/yuri couple?"

...I must confess...it's Roy and Ed from 'Full Metal Alchemist'.  I know they aren't actually together, but I read an absolutely hilarious doujinshi once, and it stuck with me.

All I can say is, Roy being chased by Ed in a maid costume.  What's not to love? :P

LOL!

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 21

"Who is your favourite yandere character?"

Um...I can only really think of two off the top of my head.  Kagura from 'Fruits Basket' and Dokora-chan from 'Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan' - she's not so much psychotic, just over powered...but on the other hand, anyone who can kill someone without a second thought (even if they can bring them back to life afterwards) definitely falls under the 'unhinged' category.

Kagura is probably the best example of a yandere, but I'm not sure she's my favourite.  I think the winner is Akane from 'Kampfer'...

...just 'coz :)

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 20

"What is your favourite shoujo anime?"

Um...over half the anime I like is shoujo...

Current favourites are 'Skip Beat!', 'Shugo Chara' and 'Toradora', but my long term favourite is probably a toss up between 'Vision of Escaflowne' and 'Kodomo no Omocha' (aka 'Child's Toy')...though I'm not entirely sure if Escaflowne counts...the main character is a school girl, and school girls would like it, but I'm not positive that it's specifically aimed at them.  After all, it also falls under the mecha category, which is usually aimed at shonen (boys).

'Kodomo no Omocha' it is :)

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 19

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 18

"What is something you find 'moe'?"

I'm familiar with the term, but to be honest, I've never really understood what it meant.  I've always thought it was in relation to a fetish, and while that interpretation seems to be correct, 'moe' is a much broader term than I orginally thought.

According to wiki, the symbol for 'moe' literally means 'budding' (eg, the Japanese word for Dolphin is made up of the symbols for 'Sea' and 'Pig'), which I think may have originally stemmed from the concept of a 'Yamato Nadeshiko' (ideal woman).  The meaning has altered over time, but I think the cute aspect of 'moe' remains the same.

I like this description from Urban dictionary:

Please imagine the feeling when you first liked somebody. The passion pops up inside of your brain and heart. This is not logical and unexplainable. And "moe" is a feeling very similar to this specific moment.

The new meaning of 'moe' is entirely caught up in issues surrounding hobbies and taste. Specifically, 'moe' means be attracted to a specific character or its specific partial element and to have a favor feeling toward it. 'Moe' suggests the condition of being infatuated with one character or thing and implies an image of someone burning with desire.
The picture becomes clearer when we hear the frequent use of 'moe' referring to specific elements or characteristics, such as 'weak girl moe,' 'young lady moe,' and 'glasses moe.' The meaning of 'glasses moe' refers to a taste that is taken with a character who wears glasses; furthermore, this taste fetishizes the feature itself of glasses-wearing. In this case, glasses are the 'moe' element.

Okay.  So an aspect of a character that I find 'moe'?  I think Tsundere characters - specifically when they are embarrassed.  I can't help but love an agressive, awkward character blushing madly.

My feelings are pretty similar to Usui's...  The more stubborn and independent the character is, the cuter it is when they get embarrassed!! *_*

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 17

"Who is your favourite Tsundere character?"

I'm gonna second Utau's answer on 'Hearts Egg' and say Kyo from 'Fruits Basket'.  I love him!

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 16

"Find a kigurumi cosplay of an anime character you love."

Since I had no idea what that was, I had to look it up (see above link).

I'll pick two, since there seem to be two main types.

Rei, 'Neon Genesis Evangelion' - human mask type

 Bunta-kun, 'Full Metal Panic - Fumoffu' - animal/creature type

...Is it just me or are those anime masks creepy?

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 14

Okay, this one wants to know what my most recent anime themed wallpaper is.

On my netbook, it's 'Ghost Hunt':

On my desktop, it's the Vocaloid Hatsune Miku:

I know that Miku isn't actually in any anime...yet.  Who's to say they won't make one?  ;)

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 13

Today's challenge is to find a picture of a person cosplaying my anime husband/wife.  (My real husband might substitute the word 'slave', LOL!)

It was surprisingly hard to find cosplays of the three main candidates, though I did find some on a site I have to register for (still waiting for confirmation e-mail, so may add those later).

In the end I still decided to go with Akito Hayama from 'Kodocha', because he reminds me of my actual husband - old photo's of my hubby actually LOOK like him!  o.O

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 12

Okay.  Today's challenge was to find an ecchi picture of my favourite series (as previously mentioned in an earlier post, 'Vision of Escaflowne').

Yay for doujinshi!  ...I really want to read this now...

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 11

"What is your favourite Mecha anime?"

Either 'Vandread' or 'Martian Successor Nadesico'.  Nadesico is a piss-take of the genre in general, and is absolutely hilarious!!!

However, there will always be a special place in my heart for Vandread ^_^

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 10

"What is your favourite 'Slice of Life' anime?"

First of all, the term 'slice of life' is incredibly vague in my opinion.  If you want to check out what wiki has to say about it, be my guest.

My interpretation is somewhere between the never ending elevator scenes in 'Neon Genesis Evangelion', and possibly something like 'Ghost Hunt', since it's timeline is determined by each new case (that has more to do with the 'slice' part of the term), or maybe the series 'NANA' which follows the life of two girls with the same name.

...It's seriously hard to pick a favourite when I'm not exactly sure what I've watched that classifies, but I think I'll go with 'The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya'.

I know that in most ways, it's as far from 'normal' as it gets, but it would look normal, if you didn't know it wasn't....If you know what I mean.

Maybe 'Skip Beat!' is a better choice, but I'm very disappointed with where they chose to end the series, so no matter how much I love the story, that will always be a turn off.

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 9

"What do you think is the saddest anime scene you have watched?"

That's a tough one...I think the most depressing anime I've watched is the movie, 'Grave of Fireflies', but it was so depressing that I've only ever watched it once and don't ever plan to watch it again.  As such, I can't remember what the saddest actual scene was.

 Saddest movie EVER.

So, anime scenes that have made my cry buckets...

'Battle Angel Alita', when Yugo lets go of her hand and falls, smiling?

'Vision of Escaflowne', when Van sees Allen kiss Hitomi?  When Van sends her back to Earth?

The movie of 'Escaflowne', when the mystic moon (Earth) disappears from the sky?

'Chrno Crusade', Rosette and Chrno's last moments?

The incredibly depressing, realistic ending of 'Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann'?

All of these are pretty high up on the list (and there are many more which I will probably kick myself for not mentioning), but I think it's a tie between Yugo and Rosette and Chrno's deaths.

Dammit, Yugo!!!!  I'm sure she could have saved you somehow!

And who thought this was a good way to end the series!  Okay, it could have been worse, but still...

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 7

"Who is your favourite anime couple?"

Again, this is a very tough question.  I've spent most of the day thinking about it, and while there a so many couples that I absolutely love...I think my answer might be Naru and Mai from Ghost Hunt.

I know that they don't ever really get their act together in the anime, and in the novels the series is based on Naru later tells Mai that she probably loves the ghost of his twin Gene, who is the one who has been visiting her in her dreams.

Personally, I couldn't disagree more.  Gene allows Mai to look more closely at Naru's actions - while he is generally cold, he has his own way of caring, and Mai comes to realise this and gets to know him in his own right.  I can understand her confusion, but I think that if she could have met Gene while he was alive, they might have tried dating, but end up being close friends.  The characters just seem far too alike for me to believe that they'd really hit it off.

Naru on the other hand, needs Mai.  Her cheerful, open and impetuous behaviour counteracts his emotionally distant, logical nature, and to top it off, the chemistry between them is intense.  She is one of the few people who can get under his skin, challenge him and hold her own.  I think the only other person who could make Naru act as recklessly as she does is Gene.

He may not realise it yet, but give it some time and I'm sure the genius will figure it out :)

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 6

"Who do you consider to be the most annoying anime character?"

Rini from Sailor Moon.  She grows on you after a while, but when she first shows up, she's just an obnoxious brat with a father complex.

And yes, Sailor Moon is your mother, duh.

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 5

"Which anime character do you feel you are the most like?"

Sana Kurata from 'Child's Toy' (aka 'Kodomo no Omocha', aka 'Kodocha').  Probably more so in the manga than the anime, especially in the case of the 'Doll Syndrome' story arc, but I've always thought of her as my anime equivilant.

And yes, I know that's scary.

Thursday 17 March 2011

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 4

"What's the anime you're ashamed you enjoyed?"

Well, it's either got to be Sailor Moon or Pokemon.  I'm not particularly bothered by it now, but when I was younger there was no way in hell I would have confessed to liking Sailor Moon, since I loved the art style, but thought Sailor Moon herself was useless.

It wasn't until I watched the episode called 'Treed' that caused me to gradually change my mind.  I get it now - being brave and fighting to protect the people you care about has nothing to do with not being absolutely terrified and messing up in the process.  Similar deal with Pokemon - Ash has his moments, but sometimes his learning curves are really hard to watch.  The series and it's movies have an unerving ability to make me cry, however, and I definitely find that a tad embarassing...
