30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 3

"Who is your anime crush?"

...I'm begining to see why they call this a challenge.

The real answer to that is: at least one character from pretty much every series I've ever watched.  Even if none of the guys take my fancy, there will probably be a female character that I either identify with or love so much that I wish I could be more like them.

My most obvious girl crush is Rei from 'Neon Genesis Evengelion', partially because I identify with her, but mostly because she looks awesome in bandages...she's just so pretty! *_*

If this included manga, I'd say that Kuon from Skip Beat would be at the top of my list of current crushes - and yes, I know that Ren is Kuon, but Ren's character is no where near as fun, and you don't really get to see much of Kuon until after the anime ends.  I consider this to be a crime against the awesomeness that is Skip Beat! and it's creator, Yoshiki Nakamura....

Since I have way too many crushes, I'll just pick a few of my favourites, but as soon as I finish this post, I know I'll be kicking myself because I didn't think of so-and-so.

Usui from Kaichou wa Maid-sama, because he is incurably hot, and a total tease.

Van from Vision of Escaflowne, because he's sweet, but not the kind that gives you toothache, he makes mistakes, is stubborn but very loyal, sprouts wings and ...this scene always made me cry!

Kyo from Fruits Basket, because's he so agro and awkward, but adorable once you get to know him :)

Shin from Gokusen, because he's smart, kicks arse and is totally going end up scoring with his teacher.

...and finally, because I have to go to bed, Ikuto from Shugo Chara.
..I think it's easy to see why.

Goodnight!

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 2

Oh no...It wants me to pick a favourite.

"What is your favourite anime that you have watched so far?"

I'm not good with favourites, dammit!!!  (I can't even settle on a favourite food...I can only settle on a favourite food from each catergory...eg, cherries are my favourite fruit, etc.)

My first thought was 'Vision of Escaflowne', so I'm going with that. (...but what about Gurren Lagann?  Oh, hell...stop thinking.  Stop thinking of more right now.)

Obviously, there are many series that I love, but Escaflowne has always held a special place in my heart.  It's the reason I started attending anime club, and now that I think about it, it's indirectly responsible for me marrying my husband...(if I hadn't gone to anime club, I probably wouldn't have met him.)

Essentially, I love this series because of the atmosphere it projects.  The music and animation just sing together, and create a whole new world.  The ending makes my cry buckets, but in a good way, and my only complaint is that Van never kisses Hitomi.

30 Day Anime Challenge: Question 1

"What was the first anime you ever watched?"

Tough one.  There were plenty of shows that I liked as a child that I didn't realise were anime until I was older...

The first anime I saw that I knew was anime was 'Battle Angel Alita', but I think 'The Last Unicorn' was one of my favourite movies long before I first saw Astro Boy, or other less obvious series like Lady Lovelylocks and Rainbow Brite.

If you're wondering why I consider Lady Lovelylocks and Rainbow Brite anime, have a look at the names in the 'Series Animation Department' on imdb, or at the credits at the end of the show if you still own some of the series.  You'd be surprised just how many of the cartoons we watched growing up in the 80's were animated by the Japanese, even if the shows were predominantly released by Americans.

Battle Angel Alita (aka GUNM)
 The Last Unicorn

As for 'The Last Unicorn', completely disregarding the names of the animation team, nothing screams 'anime' like a guy tied to a talking tree with giant boobs.

The Birth of Lizard Egg

Yo!  I created this account so I could post my thoughts on a blog I was following, but I figured that since I made one, it should get put to good use.

Lizard Egg is the name of the anime music video studio that one of my best friends and I created when we joined forces to created this wonderful piece of awesome:

*Shugo FM*
Anime: Shugo Chara, Shugo Chara: Doki
33 Parodies in total...(so I'm not listing them here unless someone asks)

We entered it in our state's anime convention (AICon) last weekend, and won the best comedy, best technical, overall and fan favourite categories.

The solo AMV I entered won the theme category (Twisted Fairytale), and while this is my friend's first time entering a competition, it's my third.  The first time I entered, I won fan favourite, and last year I won theme.

We make an awesome team, and we plan on entering even more competitions in the future, so if you're an anime fan and you like music videos, keep an eye out for us.  We will only continue to polish and hone our skills with the creation on each new AMV :)

If anyone who reads this has AMV's of your own, tell us about it!  We would love to be able to watch them :)

Here are some of my solo efforts:
